It's time to speak up. It's time for action
Updated: Jun 5
I’ve been listening. I’ve been doing my best to learn. I don’t take words lightly, so I’ve taken time to make sure I get this right. But now it’s time to speak out.
Empathy, understanding and, ultimately, action is what’s needed in times like these. For however much this voice matters, I want to add it to the millions who are taking to the streets across this country to protest and demand change following the killing of George Floyd at the hands of a group of Minneapolis police officers. When you’re consistently shown a reality that vastly differs from your own, it’s imperative to open your eyes to it in an attempt to understand.
Businesses shouldn't stay silent on these matters, either. I feel it's important for Cliff Jump Media to make clear its values and stand for what's right.
I also believe that action speaks much louder than words and call on my home city of Pismo Beach, other cities, local governments and politicians across California and this country to enact strict and comprehensive reform to hold law enforcement accountable for systematic racism and violence against people of color. We must also demand an end to the culture of corruption in our halls of power that has enabled these abuses for far too long. I believe the issue is systemic, and because it’s systemic, that means we can work to fix it.
Enough is enough. It’s time for change. It's time for action.
I have signed Black Lives Matter’s petition for police reform and have donated to its cause, and I encourage everyone who feels the same to no longer be silent and work to fix this broken system in a manner you see fit.
The following is a list of resources I believe can help those who feel helpless or are unable to take to the streets. Let’s ensure this is the beginning to enacting real change in all of our communities.
