What’s in a name? The birth of Cliff Jump Media through doing something that scares you

I have to admit, I’m not a big fan of heights. Roller coasters? No thank you. The high diving board? I’ll pass. Bungee jumping, skydiving or anything of the sorts? More power to you; I’ll watch.

So, why Cliff Jump Media? Well, frankly, I wanted to scare myself. I needed to step out of my comfort zone and into a challenge. Starting my own media company had been in the back of my mind for quite some time, and as I sat on a bench overlooking the Pacific Ocean just down the street from my home, I realized now was the time.

"I wish I could jump off that cliff right now into the ocean," I thought.

And it hit me. "Cliff Jump Media" was the name for my new company.

Transitioning from a successful career in news

After nearly 20 years in the news business, it was time to write my own story. I wanted to do something new, something that pushed me in new ways, yes, something that scared me. But really, only new in the sense of starting my own venture, my own business. It’s not really all that new in utilizing the skills I’ve built telling stories that connect with people, leading teams to accomplish goals and, frankly, navigating the ever-changing media landscape to sell an idea, a product, an identity.

But starting out on my own, now that’s the scary part. That’s my “Cliff Jump.” And overlooking the beauty of the ocean and the sun on the horizon represented just what I wanted to accomplish off in the distance, building something of my own rather than for somebody else. But what lay directly in front of me was a cliff, something extremely scary, and I knew I needed to, no had to, jump.

That’s when Cliff Jump Media was born.

Helping businesses achieve goals

I know it also represents exactly what so many business owners are feeling when it comes to not only building something of their own, but also figuring out just how to grow it into what they want it to be – that ideal picture of the sun and the ocean. You’ve taken that jump, even if it scared you. Now that I’ve done the same, I have nothing but respect for the courage it takes to write your own destiny. Now that we’re sharing that journey, I’d love nothing more than to reach our goals together.

So, welcome to Cliff Jump Media. I can’t wait to work together on accomplishing our dreams.
